Jerner & Palmer attorneys will be presenting the following workshop seminars:

11:00 a.m. - 12:15 p.m. - What Does Saying "I Do" Mean For You? Relationship Recognition and the Legal Confusion over Marriage, Civil Unions and Domestic Partnerships, Presenter: Rebecca Levin, Esquire

The legal landscape for same-sex couples and their families is nothing, if not confusing. This workshop will explore the different legal statuses available to same-sex couples (marriage, civil unions, domestic partnerships) and what rights and benefits those statuses offer to couples and their families residing in both recognition states and non-recognition states, focusing specifically on Pennsylvania and New Jersey. For example, what are the legal ramifications for a Pennsylvania couple who gets married in New York or gets a civil union in New Jersey? What about a New Jersey couple who got married in Massachusetts and later had children in New Jersey without doing second-parent adoptions? How do couples get into and out of marriages and civil unions? This workshop will address the legal considerations that should be understood before (or after) entering into a legally recognized relationship and what, if any, additional protective measures you should take.

1:15 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. - The Dos and Don'ts of Donor Selection and Insemination, Presenter: Tiffany L. Palmer, Esquire

If you are considering conceiving a child using a sperm donor, this is a workshop for you. There are many considerations in deciding whether to conceive your children using a known or anonymous donor, bringing with it legal, emotional and medical considerations. This workshop will explore all the considerations and perspectives involved in using a known or anonymous donor, including how to evaluate cryobanks. A lawyer, a family therapist, parents with donor-conceived children and a known sperm donor will lead an informative discussion to help you make these important decisions.
