Name and Gender Marker Changes to Pennsylvania Driver’s Licenses and Non-Driver ID Cards

Changing Only Your Name If you have a Pennsylvania driver’s license or identity card that will not expire in the next six months, and you wish a new photo to appear on your driver's license, the name on your license can be changed by submitting a completed PennDOT Form DL-80, Non-Commercial Driver’s License Application for Change/Correction/Replacement, along with a certified copy of your name change decree at any PennDOT Driver License Center. The fee for this service is $27.50, payable by check or money order to "PennDOT". Alternatively, you may mail to PennDOT your completed Form DL-80, a certified copy of your name change decree, and your payment. PennDOT will send you a camera card, which is a temporary license valid for 60 days. During those 60 days, you must appear at a PennDOT Driver License Center for the purpose of having a photo taken.

If you have a Pennsylvania driver’s license or identity card that will not expire in the next six months, and you do not wish a new photo to appear on your driver's license, you may submit Form DL-80 and a certified copy of your name change decree at any PennDOT Driver License Center or by mail.  There will be no fee; however, PennDOT will issue only an “update card” that you must carry with your existing driver’s license or identity card.

If your existing license or identity card is due to expire in the next 6 months, you should not use Form DL-80. Instead, use PennDOT Form DL-143, Non-Commercial Driver’s License Application for Renewal. There is a processing fee of $29.50, payable by check or money order to "PennDOT". You may submit Form DL-143  at any PennDOT Driver License Center, along a certified copy of your name change decree and your payment. Alternatively, you may mail to PennDOT your completed Form DL-143, a certified copy of your name change decree, and your payment. PennDOT will send you a camera card, which is a temporary license valid for 60 days. During those 60 days, you must appear at a PennDOT Driver License Center for the purpose of having a photo taken. All submissions to PennDOT by mail should be sent to: PennDOT Bureau of Driver Licensing, P.O. Box 68272 Harrisburg, PA 17106-8272 If you use the mail, include a self-addressed, stamped envelope, along with a request that the certified copy of your name change decree be returned to you.  

Changing Only Your Gender Marker If you have a Pennsylvania driver’s license or identity card that will not expire in the next six months, you may change the gender marker on your license or identity card if you submit a completed PennDOT Form DL-32, Request for Gender Change on Driver’s License/Identification Card. [1] Form DL-32 must be submitted in person at a PennDOT Driver License Center. A fee of $27.50 must be paid by check or money order payable to “PennDOT” to process Form DL-32. If your existing driver’s license or identity card is due to expire in the next 6 months, you must submit a completed PennDOT Form DL-143 in addition to PennDOT Form DL-32. A fee of $29.50 must be paid by check or money order payable to “PennDOT." Forms DL-143 and DL-32 must be submitted in person at a PennDOT Driver License Center.

The fee for this service is $29.50, payable by check or money order to "PennDOT".
